Roy Chen began his training in classical Chinese dance at Niao Song School of the Arts in Taiwan, and continued advanced studies at Fei Tian Academy of the Arts and Fei Tian College, both in New York. He won first place in New Tang Dynasty Television's Junior male division in the 2016 International Classical Chinese Dance Competition, after in the same competition in 2018, he also received the gold medal from the senior division. He has also studied the dizi (Chinese flute) and the suona (a reed instrument) since age 7. Since 2021 he served as the host and guest teacher of Chinese classical dance at Feitian Academy of the Arts.
